How to Organize Your Coupons

Organizing your coupons is half the battle of actually saving money with them! I cannot tell you how many times I went somewhere thinking I had a coupon only to find that it was in my purse at home. After losing coupons a few times I came up with my own coupon organizing system. Now I never have to look for a coupon as I always know exactly where to find each one.

1. Buy a small plastic accordion style bill organizer with tab dividers. Another option that may be less expensive is to use a Dollar Store 4x6 photo album with and ad your own divider tabs.

2. Usually these organizers come with alphabetical labels which come in very handy however you can also create your own. The labels are important because they help you find what you are looking for quickly.

3. Once you have your alphabetical labels in place you can decide how you want to organize your coupons.

4. I like to sort them alphabetically by the item name for example I would put a yogurt coupon under "Y". You could also sort your coupons by store section as that might help you be more efficient.

5. When I have a coupon for a particular store say for example, Bed, Bath and Beyond, I would put it under "B". This way when I go to a particular store I can quickly check to see if I have any coupons to use while I am there.

6. Plan out your shopping trip ahead of time by looking at all of the store circular ads and determining what you have coupons for. Make a list of items that are on sale and/or that you have coupons for. I usually like to wait until an item is on sale to use my coupon so that I get extra savings. When something is on sale and you have a coupon be sure to stock up on it as long as your coupon allows.
